Abstract

Agricultural use of water accounts for nearly 70% of the fresh water available. Irrigation allows arid land to become land that can be used for productive agriculture. In this paper we propose an appropriate method of utilizing the available water resource which results in less water wastage and allows farmers to irrigate their crop with accurate amount of water required for that specific crop. The function of the proposed system is that it irrigates only those sectors of land where the moisture level of the soil determined using sensors is lower than a pre-determined threshold value while bypassing the others. Solenoid valves are used to control the amount of water supplied to the land. The aim of this project is to integrate technology in agricultural practices, so as to aid famers in maximizing their yield and conserving water system thus implementing precision irrigation system. Our main motive in this work is to save the valuable water. An important point to be noted is that the farmer should have complete knowledge about irrigation in order to use water efficiently.
