Abstract

An efficient method for ortho-amidation of azobenzene in the presence of Co(III)-catalyst has been developed. Dioxazolone has been used as an environmently benign and a mild amidating reagent. The wide range of symmetrical and unsymmetrical azobenzene derivatives have been synthesized using this protocol. This operationally simple, practical, mild and eco-friendly method provides an opportunity to synthesize a variety of azobenzene derivatives in good to moderate yields.
