Abstract

Education in intellectual property (IP) is a growing concern for business organizations. As countries liberalize into a global economy the knowledge of the protection process becomes crucial for business survival and growth. Business organizations the world over must focus on technological and global leadership to maintain a competitive advantage. Intellectual property of an organization refers to its inventions as assets made commerciable and developed into this state via, their intangiable assets, like brainware. IP requires to be protected by a national or international protection system to ensure ownership rights of the inventor or group of inventors. IP aware teams, will put the organization into a faster lane to manifest and realize competitive advantage. Early training of employees ensures error reduction in intellectual property strategy, due to ignorance. In fact to reduce business ignorance of this nature it is better to start education well before the employee reaches industry, in the undergrad and graduate schools both in science and engineering. Thus, the importance of intellectual property education is felt (a) at the university levels and (b) at business organizations.
