Abstract

Complete knowledge of the transmission characteristics of a hose system is generally given by a 3×3 matrix of transmission loss (TL) values. In this study, these TL values have been derived in terms of elements of the overall 8×8 matrix of the hose-pipe system wherein the effects of shear deformation, rotary inertia, and the fluid have been incorporated. In turn, these expressions have been used for parametric studies related to vibro-acoustics of hoses. Some general design guidelines based on the parametric studies have been derived for visco-elastic hoses, with or without bends, with gases or liquids as the media of propagation.
