Abstract

Implementation of hierarchical conformance testing method for testing LAPB in this report ia discussed. UIO method of testing the state of a FSM has some disadvantages over the hierarchical method. While it is a compact way of checking that the state of the FSM is indeed what we need it to be, UIO method causes some special cases of errors to be masked. Under certain specific cases of errors, UIO testing actually traverses a different path while generating the expected output. This usually results in the final state of the UIO to be different, and depending on the next few test-transitions, the error may not be detected at all in such a situation, All this is because the transitions tested are only of single length. The hierarchical method of testing conformance uses path-lengths of two and more in an increasing order of hierarchy to completely test all possible behaviours of the FSM.
