Abstract

Analysis of permanent softening is used to obtain information on internal stresses in three aluminium matrix composites with different reinforcement aspect ratios. The reliability of using this method to analyse thermal residual and plastic mean stresses is discussed in the context of recent neutron diffraction experiments in similar composites.
