Abstract
The stereoselective total synthesis of (+)-pinellic acid, a natural product used in the treatment of influenza, was accomplished from L-(+)-tartaric acid. A key feature of the synthesis includes the elaboration of a \gamma -hydroxybutyramide derived from L-(+)-tartaric acid.
