Abstract

Systematic investigations were carried out to study the effect of trace elements used for modification on the casting fluidity of a eutectic Al-Si [107877-22-5] alloy by using the vacuum suction technique. Fluidity of the eutectic alloy was decreased by the addn. of Na, Na + Sr, Ti, Na + Ti, or Na + Sr + Ti. The addn. of Sb, S, Sb + Ti, or S + Ti increased the fluidity. Among the trace elements added, Na + Ti decreased the fluidity to the max. extent, namely .apprx.34% at $600^o$ and .apprx.17% at $680^o$. S increased the fluidity by .apprx.23 and .apprx.12% at 600 and 680, resp.
