A review with 12 references. Synthesis and characterization of superconducting thallium cuprates derived from $TlSr_3Cu_2O_7$ as well as of $Ba_2Pb_{1-x}Tl_xCuO_5$ possessing a defect-perovskite structure (similar to brownmillerite) are described. The dependence of Tc in thallium cuprates on hole concentration is discussed based on various experimental studies. The relevance of the Cu-O charge-transfer energy to the superconductivity of cuprates is pointed out on the basis of Cu(2p) photoemission measurements. The nature of superconductivity in doped $C_{60}$ as revealed by the pressure-dependence of the photoluminescence band of $C_{60}$ is examined
