Abstract

Stirring powder coal in aqueous 0.6 N HCl solution containing Chloramine T (I) [127-65-1] (175:1 liquid-solid ratio and 39.5:1-coal ratio) removed 38.1% total S of coal in 3 h. The coal samples contained 2.5% total S (org. 89.5, sulfate 4.3, pyritic 6.2%). The use of I is considered for the removal of organic S compounds from coal.
