Abstract

The mass of liquid He in a cryostat is detected at 1.3-4.2 K and the data are analyzed on the basis of reversible and irreversible models of J. Nicol and H. V. Bohm (1959). The reversible model describes the experimental data on fractional volumes satisfactorily at $\leq1.8 K$. The irreversible model can be used to determine the minimum fractional volumes during the pumping of a He dewar. The data are useful in the design of He II transfer systems for space applications.
