Abstract
Kinetics of oxidation. of 2-propanol to acetone over $CuO-ThO_2$-pumice were studied by using an isothermal integral flow reactor at $240-285^\circ/1$ atm. Conversion to acetone at any temp. first increases, then decreases, and finally becomes independent as the mole ratio of $O_2$ to 2-propanol is gradually increased to \geq8. Conversion to $CO_2$, on the other hand, increases continuously with the mole ratio of $O_2$ to 2-propanol and becomes independent when the latter is \geq8. Model discrimination tests eliminated all but a two-stage redox model with the reaction order of unity with respect to both 2-propanol and $O_2$ as well as a steady-state adsorption model which yields rate equations identical in math. form with the former. These two models represent the exptl. rate data satisfactorily.
