Abstract

In the presence of phosphites, PhNCS inserts into the $CuI-OC_6H_4Me-4$ bond. The complex formed loses the phosphite and oligomerizes to form [Cu{2-SC(:NPh)$(OC_6H_4Me-4)}]6.3CH_2C_{l2} (I)$. $Cu(OC_6H_4Me-4)$ reacts with PhNCS in the presence of Ph3P to give Cu{SC(:NPh)$(OC_6H_4Me-4)$}(PPh3) which is converted to I on recrystn. from MeCN. I is triclinic, space group P.hivin.1, with a 13.089(1), b 13.309(1), c 13.554(1) .ANG., \alpha 97.37(1), \beta 95.05(1), \gamma 100.23(1), Z = 1, dc = 1.523, do = 1.52 g cm-3, R = 0.060, Rw = 0.059. The ligand in I is didentate, coordinated through the N and S atoms.
