Abstract

The problem of dynamic secure economic multiperiod generation scheduling considering spinning reserve requirement and group limits is considered and a new algorithm is proposed for the solution. The proposed solution scheme does not consider the whole problem as a large linear programming problem as in earlier approaches. Instead, the proposed solution scheme is a step by step procedure. In the first phase, a simple logic is used to obtain a merit order scheduling of generators including the group constraints for each of the intervals. In the second phase the feasibility of the scheduling obtained at the end of first phase is tested and the necessary modifications are made by considering rate constraints and spinning reserve requirement in two sequential steps. It is shown that the resulting schedule is optimal or very nearly optimal. The superiority of the proposed approach is established by comparing its performance with other approaches
