The dynamic simulation of constrained mechanical systems formed by interconnected rigid bodies that undergo large displacements is a research area with applications in a broad range of engineering fields, e.g. robotics, automobile, aerospace and biomechanics. Several approaches have been proposed in the literature for solving this simulation problem. Good packages such as ADAMS and DADS, which are based on one of these approaches, are available. Yet, the approaches have never been compared in a common setting. This paper aims to fill this gap.
