Abstract

The Ti-Ni binary system under non-equilibrium conditions offers an exciting range of metastable microstructures including nanodispersions in glassy and crystalline matrices. We report a systematic study of these microstructures and phase stability for a wide range (10-90 at.%) of rapidly solidified Ti-Ni binary alloys. This study has revealed the nature of the metastable phase equilibria and kinetic pathways for liquid-solid transformation in undercooled Ti-Ni melts during rapid solidification
