Abstract

It is well known that both electrical and thermal processes contribute to the pollution flashover of insulators. The distribution of pollution deposition on the surface of an insulator (in a string) being nonuniform makes the voltage and the temperature distributions also nonuniform. Taking these into consideration, a circuit model for calculating the voltage and temperature distributions on the surface of a nonuniformly polluted insulator has been presented. Any circuit simulation software can be used to get the solution. Whenever possible, the results obtained from the present model have been compared with published data for the axisymmetric uniform pollution case and they agree well. In addition, the voltage and temperature distribution for typical nonuniform deposition of pollution are presented
