Abstract

The breakdown characteristics of a rod-plane air gap under the application of unidirectional and bidirectional oscillatory switching impulse voltages (OSIV) were studied under normal atmospheric conditions. This helps in understanding the effect of OSIV on power transmission lines. The studies have been conducted at different gap spacings and for differing polarity and frequency of switching impulse voltages. Certain important conclusions have also been reported
